The compact disc (CD) contains a large number of test signal and musical excerpts which can be used not only to thoroughly check the playback performance of a CD player, but to evaluate other audio components as well, such as amplifiers, tape decks or loudspeakers. Some tracks contain signals which are encoded by Dolby Surround™, and it is possible to check and adjust the surround performance of your Audio-Video system using these tracks. It can further be used tive listening tests. The disc offers a wide range of applications far beyond the scope of conventional test recordings. Together with a CD player, the disc provides a most valuable source of extremely precise test signals which until now could only be produced with an array of expensive professional signal generators. All tracks on this CD except for the musical excerpts and several signals were produced by a high precision digital 16-bit signal processor controlled by a computer, and recorded in digital form on the compact disc. There were no intermediate analog steps involved. All the musical excerpts are taken from digital PCM recordings made by DENON in the USA. These recordings are renowned for their outstanding quality. On this CD, the maximum level expressed by a 16-bit signal corresponds to 0 dB. The dB values given for the various signals represent waveform peak values referred to that 0 dB level. Noise signals are recorded in such a way that their average output level approximately corresponds to the effective level of sine wave signals. As many tracks on this disc have an extremely strong high-frequency content and are recorded at much higher levels than conventional program sources, this CD must be used with utmost care to avoid destruction of amplifiers or loudspeakers due to overload. Be sure to reduce the volume setting on your system to a very low level before starting the test procedure. The signal on this CD may be put to various uses depending on your requirements. For reasons of simplicity, the track may be classified as follows. |

Track 1-7 Source Material for Listening Test |
These tracks contain some musical excerpts of jazz albums from digital PCM recordings made by DENON in the USA and can be used to evaluate the performance of the audio system by ear. Check the localization and the balance of the various instruments. It can be further used to check the surround effect via the surround sound set-up. Track 8-9 Announcement for Basic Checks These tracks serve to check basic parameters of the audio system, such as channel orientation, correct phasing, etc. |
Track 10-12 Test Signals for Basic Checks |
These tracks contain special test signals to check the same parameters as described in (2) . Track 10 - 12 contains three types of reference level signals which are presently in use for various audio systems. Choose the level which is required for your system. |
Track 13-23 Various Measurement Signals I |
These tracks contain various noise signals such as pink noise 1/3 and 1/1 octave band noise to measure acoustic properties, reverberation etc. of the listening room. These tracks can be used as a noise generator. |
Track 24-25 Various Measurement Signals II |
Track 24 contains the logarithmical sweep signal from very low frequencies (5 Hz)to very high frequencies (22.05 kHz) for audio measurements. Track 25 contains the necessary signal to check the playback performance of CD players. The infinity zero (0 dB) serves as reference signal for measurements of harmonic distortions, channel separation and noise level etc. |

Track 26 Surround Sound Test Tone |
This track contains the test signals for adjusting the levels of the different channels for Dolby Pro Logic (TM) surround. After arranging the speakers position according to the owners' manual of your AV receiver or amplifier, play this track. The test signal will come out in the left, centre, right and surround channel order. Adjust the level balance between the channels so that the level of the speakers seems to be equal. Note : This test tone is only available on Dolby Pro Logic (TM) mode. The tone will not move as described in any other surround mode. |
Track 27-31 Surround Demonstration |
This track contains sources recorded in Dolby Surround (TM). The surround effect can be heard only in Dolby Pro Logic (TM) surround. | ||||||||||
